A sleeve scarf is a long scarf with a cuff at each end that you wear like a cardigan, a shawl or a cowl. Below are 15 sleeve scarf patterns, 9 crochet and 6 knit. Each one links straight to its written pattern, and where the designer has filmed a tutorial, the video link is included too.
Already made an Eleanor or a Snowfall? This list is all fresh designs: faux fur, Tunisian, lace shawls with sleeves, a child-size version and classic knit wraps. Here is why sleeve scarves keep trending every autumn:
- Garment results with scarf effort. You make one long rectangle and add two cuffs. There is no neckline and no armhole shaping.
- Four outfits in one. You can cross it in front or in back, wear it as a scarf, or drape it off one shoulder.
- Size-inclusive by design. Most patterns here run from XS to 5XL, and the generous positive ease forgives small gauge differences.
- Gift-friendly. You don’t need exact measurements to make one for someone else.

3. Winter Wheat Sweater Scarf by Briana K Designs
The signature Wheat Stitch, a four-row repeat with puff stitches, gives this scarf a rich, woven texture that looks like a store-bought knit. It is worked back and forth in rows with ribbed cuffs at each end. Briana walks you through the whole thing in a video on the pattern page.

4. Delphine Scarf with Sleeves by Heart Hook Home
Named after the Delphinus constellation because it uses the star stitch, the Delphine has a plush, almost quilted texture and fitted ribbed cuffs (front and back post double crochet). The body is about 60 inches long before the cuffs, and you can add or remove rows in the middle to adjust it.

6. Tunisian Sweater Scarf by I Can Crochet That (Julie Bonner)
A brand-new Tunisian design built for approachability. It uses only Tunisian half double crochet, which looks knit-like and doesn’t curl. The sleeves are made without fastening off to seam, so there are very few ends to weave in. The pattern comes in three yarn versions: solid, solid plus variegated, and solid plus self-striping.
- Yarn: worsted (Lion Brand Pound of Love, Red Heart Roll With It Melange), 1,100 to 1,800 yards
- Hooks: 6.5 mm (K) Tunisian hook and 5.0 mm (H)

- Level: intermediate (confident beginners with some Tunisian experience)
- Pattern: Pattern page on I Can Crochet That or on Ravelry ($7.50)
- Video: a full step-by-step video covers the body, the sleeves and the finishing
7. Camellia Shrug (Shardi) by Two Brothers Blankets
A “shardi” (shawl plus cardigan) is a wider, more shawl-like sleeve scarf. The Camellia is a single rectangle that you fold in half, and then you crochet the sleeves in the round on each end. It is easy to make, machine washable and very soft, and it is now free on the blog.
- Yarn: DK / light weight
- Hook: 5.0 mm (H)
- Sizes: 3 sizes, to fit a 28 to 64-inch bust
- Best for: a lightweight transitional layer for spring and autumn
- Pattern: Free pattern on Two Brothers Blankets
- Video: none; the post includes step photos for attaching the sleeves
8. Magnolia Shardi by Two Brothers Blankets
The Camellia’s lacier older sister, in sport-weight yarn. It is rated easy, uses very basic stitches and needs no sewing. It also belongs to a matching Magnolia collection (tee, cardigan and scarf) if you want a set.

9. Ballerina Scarfigan by Start Crochet (kids’ size)
The only children’s sleeve scarf on this list. It is a half double crochet body with colorful sleeves, designed for a child, and the free blog version shows every step in photos. It is a great way to use a multi-color yarn pack, and a sweet “mommy and me” match for any of the adult patterns.
- Yarn: DK / light (Paintbox Yarns 5-color pack used)
- Hooks: 4.5 mm and 3.5 mm
- Level: beginner
- Pattern: Free pattern on Start Crochet or the 28-page PDF on LoveCrafts

From a cloud-light laceweight wrap to chunky beginner shrugs and a hooded version, these knit patterns are all different from the classic stockinette sweater scarf.
10. Cloudscape Sweater Scarf by Knitatude
The newest and lightest design in Knitatude’s sweater scarf collection. It is knit in laceweight suri alpaca, which gives a billowy, wispy halo that looks ethereal over a slip dress or a wedding gown. Despite the fine yarn, it is rated beginner and uses only knit, purl, increases and decreases.
- Yarn: laceweight (suri), about 2,095 to 2,255 yards
- Needles: US 7 (4.5 mm) and US 4 (3.5 mm)
- Gauge: 20 sts and 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette
- Languages: English and Finnish
- Best for: brides, bridesmaids and spring evenings
- Pattern: Cloudscape Sweater Scarf on Ravelry or LoveCrafts ($8)
- Video: none for this pattern; the designer’s Wrap Me Up page has a video showing the three ways to wear her sweater scarves
11. Knit Wrap Sweater Scarf by City Farmhouse Studio
A raised slip-stitch and yarn-over pattern gives this wrap a sculpted, 3D texture you rarely see in sleeve scarves. The designer recommends watching her video before you start so you get the slips and yarn overs right. (There is also a separate machine-knit version if you own a knitting machine.)
- Yarn: worsted (Caron used)
- Sizes: three sizes covering a 28 to 62-inch bust (XS to 5X)
- Level: intermediate
- Pattern: Knit Wrap Sweater Scarf on Ravelry or LoveCrafts
- Video: a video tutorial link is included in the pattern
12. Wrap Around Shrug with Sleeves by Camexia Designs

- Pattern: Wrap Around Shrug with Sleeves on Ravelry

15. Sleeve Scarf Sweater Wrap by Lake House Knits
A classic that has been on Pinterest boards since 2014 and has thousands of favorites on Ravelry. It is an easy, multi-use sleeve wrap that you can wear as a scarf, a cowl or a shrug.

How to customize any sleeve scarf pattern
Almost every pattern above is one rectangle plus two cuffs, so a few simple changes let you make it your own:
- Change the length: add or remove rows (or repeats) in the middle of the body, never in the cuffs. Most designers, including Heart Hook Home for the Delphine, tell you exactly where.
- Change the width: for side-to-side patterns (Wilmade, Ballerina), change the starting chain; for end-to-end patterns, work more or fewer rows.
- Fix tight cuffs: go up one hook or needle size for the cuffs, or skip some of the decreases. Try a cuff on before you seam.
- Make it lighter or warmer: you can swap yarn weights, but swatch first and recalculate stitch counts. Going from DK to bulky roughly halves the stitch count.
- Play with color: self-striping and gradient yarns are made for this shape, since the stripes run neatly from cuff to cuff. The Tunisian Sweater Scarf (#6) even includes separate versions for variegated and self-striping yarn.
How to care for your sleeve scarf
- Acrylic and acrylic blends (most patterns here): machine wash on gentle and tumble dry low, or lay flat to dry to keep the length.
- Wool, alpaca and suri (Cloudscape, wool-blend versions): hand wash in cool water with wool wash, roll in a towel and dry flat.
- Faux fur (#2): hand wash, then shake it out and air dry; never iron it.
- Storage: fold, don’t hang. A long, heavy scarf stretches on a hanger.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a sleeve scarf, a sweater scarf and a shardi? They are the same idea: a long wrap with a cuff at each end. “Sweater scarf” usually means a narrower, scarf-like piece, while “shardi” (shawl plus cardigan) is wider and drapes more like a shawl, as with the Camellia and Magnolia (#7, #8).
Can kids wear a sleeve scarf? Yes. The Ballerina Scarfigan (#9) is sized for a child. For a teen, use the smallest size of any adult pattern and shorten the body.
Can I make a sleeve scarf with a hood? Yes. The Celine Hood Scarf (#14) is designed with a hood option, and LiliaCraftParty’s Khloe is a similar hooded design.
What is the fastest sleeve scarf to make? The Faux Fur Sweater Scarf (#2): super bulky yarn on a 12 mm hook with only single crochet. Chunky knit patterns like the Wrap Around Shrug (#12) are a close second.
Which pattern is best for a wedding? The Cloudscape (#10) in laceweight suri is the most ethereal. The Magnolia Shardi (#8) in a cream sport yarn and the Faux Fur (#2) in white are lovely winter-wedding options too.
Are these patterns free? Six of the 15 have a free version online (#1, #2, #3, #4, #7 and #9). The Magnolia (#8) is free for blog subscribers, and the rest cost between $2 and $8.
